Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) will tap AT&T's (NYSE: T) mobile network for wireless capability in its autos.
Speaking at an event in San Francisco today, AT&T senior VP Chris Penrose said that Tesla will use AT&T to power in-car diagnostics, infotainment, and other wireless services.
Penrose notes that the deal has been around for a while, despite being talked about only recently.
AT&T noted recently that it has been working on different business models. One example is that the auto manufacturer would be able to pay for telemetry while the auto owner could pay to use the vehicle as a wireless hotspot or for other features.
While AT&T is positive Thursday, Tesla shares are ticking lower.
