Not only has Carl Icahn's tweet on Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) boosted the stock value by some $25 billion and made the activist some $70 million in a matter of hours, but Icahn's status on Twitter has also had a huge jump.
Icahn now has 52,750 followers under his @Carl_C_Icahn Twitter handle, or roughly 40% above where it was pre-Apple tweet.
You could say his Apple pick and tweet was also very strategic in nature. Had Icahn tweeted about a llittle-known company like Harris Teeter (HTSI), for example, it wouldn't has resonated in the same way.
Icahn's clout on Twitter and in the market has clearly received a large boost from the Apple tweet - which will help him in other activist investments in lesser-known names. Icahn - you sly fox you.
