Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII) said its XBee wireless modules were used by HighGreat Technology to orchestrate drone light shows, including a performance involving over 8,100 drones that earned a Guinness World Record, according to a company press release.
HighGreat Technology, which produces large-scale aerial entertainment performances across more than 300 cities globally, uses Digi XBee modules with DigiMesh networking to synchronize LED-equipped drones. The company has built more than 100,000 drones using Digi XBee modules. A more recent HighGreat event featured a fleet of over 15,000 AI-controlled drones.
"Each of our shows requires hundreds or thousands of drones working in perfect harmony," said Wei Deng of HighGreat Technology. "Digi XBee delivered the low latency, reliability, and scalability we required to achieve complex formations without losing a single packet of data."
Each drone transmits real-time kinematic positioning data for centimeter-level accuracy during performances. On the ground, multiple base stations serve as routing hubs to extend coverage across large venues.
"These drone swarms are wireless mesh networks in motion, synchronized with high precision using self-healing DigiMesh technology," said Mike Rohrmoser, Vice President of Product Management, OEM Solutions at Digi International.
Digi International said it has deployed over 25 million XBee modules globally across industries including industrial automation, agriculture, robotics, renewable energy, and oil and gas.
