Investing.com -- Luigi Mangione is scheduled to appear in state court today for a hearing ahead of his murder trial set to begin in September. The 28-year-old is charged with killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel in December 2024.
Mangione entered a not guilty plea in December 2024 to state murder, weapons and forgery charges filed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The trial will take place before Justice Gregory Carro in Manhattan.
The purpose of today's hearing has not been disclosed. The proceeding follows a sealed, virtual meeting held two weeks ago between prosecutors and defense lawyers.
Thompson led UnitedHealth Group's insurance unit before he was shot in the early morning outside a hotel where he was attending an investor conference. The killing took place on a Midtown sidewalk and drew widespread condemnation from public officials.
