Schwab's May activity shows margin loans nearly double
Investing.com -- Charles Schwab Corp released its May 2026 Monthly Activity Report on Friday, showing margin loan balances nearly doubled as long/short strategies expanded, according to William Blair.
The growth in margin loans helped drive a nearly 20% increase in sweep cash during the month, which is expected to support strong growth in spread income.
Client trading activity reached a new record in May, while client asset growth was 27%, aided by rising markets. Organic growth was in line with historical May levels.
William Blair projects earnings per share growth of nearly 30% for 2026, though current trends suggest this forecast could be conservative. The firm said rising client asset levels, expanding spread income, and strong trading activity should support robust earnings growth.
