Build-A-Bear names Chris Hurt as new CEO in leadership transition

Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc. (NYSE: BBW) announced Chris Hurt has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer effective June 11, 2026, completing a planned succession process.
Hurt replaces Sharon Price John, who led the company for 13 years and will remain on the Board of Directors. Hurt brings more than 11 years of leadership experience at Build-A-Bear, most recently serving as Chief Operations and Experience Officer.
"I am honored to step into the Chief Executive Officer role and build upon the company's current position of strength," Hurt said in a statement. "With a clear strategy focused on profitable growth, our powerful brand, and a talented global team, we are dedicated to continuing to advance the experiences, partnerships and opportunities for innovation."
The company also announced executive leadership changes. Voin Todorovic, current Chief Financial Officer, has added the role of Chief Administrative Officer, expanding his responsibilities to include enterprise-wide administrative oversight. Dave Henderson, previously Chief Revenue Officer, has been appointed Chief Growth Officer with expanded focus on driving long-term global growth and strategic expansion initiatives.
Craig Leavitt, Chairman of the Board, said the leadership updates align with the organization's strategic initiatives including financial management, operational efficiency, and growth acceleration across channels and markets.
Build-A-Bear operates more than 650 company-owned, partner-operated and franchise locations across more than 30 countries. The St. Louis-based company reported $529.8 million in total revenues for fiscal 2025, representing its fifth consecutive year of record results according to the press release.
Founded in 1997, Build-A-Bear operates as a retailtainment brand where customers create personalized stuffed animals through a customization process at physical locations and online.
