L3Harris wins $106 million US Army contract for counter-drone systems

L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) received a U.S. Army contract worth up to $106 million to deliver VAMPIRE counter-unmanned systems for defense against hostile drones, according to a company statement.

The VAMPIRE system provides reconnaissance and precision strike capabilities against drones and remotely piloted aircraft. Military forces have logged more than 350,000 operational hours with the technology since 2023 in European combat operations.

"VAMPIRE is effective at hunting and engaging drone threats affordably, which enables U.S. armed forces to sustain reliable defense of its personnel and infrastructure," said Tom Kirkland, President of Targeting & Sensor Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance at L3Harris.

L3Harris developed the VAMPIRE system following the start of the war in Ukraine as a low-cost solution against Russian drone threats. The company ramped up production in 2026, establishing high-volume manufacturing in Huntsville, Alabama.

The Army order forms part of the United States' layered counter-unmanned systems defense approach. The VAMPIRE capability functions as a self-contained weapons solution that can be assembled, delivered, set up and fired quickly.
