Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) has selected Bechtel as the engineering, procurement and construction partner for the first phase of its memory manufacturing complex in Clay, New York. The announcement was made according to a press release from the companies.
Bechtel will begin mobilization at the White Pine Commerce Park site in Onondaga County immediately. Micron broke ground on its first New York fabrication facility in January 2026 and is now transitioning to the next construction phase with Bechtel.
The project is projected to generate 50,000 jobs in New York, including over 4,500 construction positions. At peak construction, the work will support thousands of skilled craft professionals. The facility is planned to become what the companies describe as the nation's largest semiconductor manufacturing facility.
According to an economic impact study by REMI, Inc., the project represents the largest private investment in New York state history and is projected to add approximately $16.7 billion per year in real economic output in the state and approximately $5.4 billion per year in personal income for New Yorkers over the next 30 years.
"Our New York project will be home to the most advanced memory manufacturing in the world and will serve as a cornerstone of America's leadership in the AI era," said Manish Bhatia, executive vice president of Global Operations at Micron Technology.
Craig Albert, Bechtel's president and chief operating officer, stated that "This project represents more than the construction of a semiconductor manufacturing campus, it is part of the foundation of America's industrial future."
Bechtel will deploy an integrated engineering, procurement and construction delivery model that includes advanced digital-enabled construction technologies, modularization strategies and project controls for the semiconductor fabrication facility.
