Xanadu Quantum Technologies Limited (NASDAQ: XNDU) announced it achieved an average 0.085 dB/facet edge-coupling loss in its photonic chip packaging technology. The Toronto-based company reported this development on June 10, 2026.
The edge-coupling loss metric measures the efficiency of connecting optical fibers to photonic chips, a critical component for photonic quantum computing systems. Xanadu stated this achievement resulted from advances in integrated photonic chip design, fabrication techniques, and packaging solutions.
"Minimizing loss is paramount to unlocking the full potential of photonic quantum computing," said Dr. Christian Weedbrook, founder and chief executive officer of Xanadu. "This loss achievement of 0.085 dB/facet is not just an incremental improvement; it represents a significant leap forward in our ability to deliver highly-efficient and scalable quantum hardware."
The company utilized its internal photonic chip packaging facility, which launched last year, to achieve this result. Xanadu worked with Corning Inc. to develop customized fiber and fiber-array solutions for low-loss networking of photonic quantum computing chips. The company also collaborated with DISCO for wafer singulation processes.
Founded in 2016, Xanadu develops photonic quantum computers designed to operate at room temperature. The company has raised more than $500 million in funding and develops both hardware and software, including PennyLane, its open-source quantum computing platform.
