Collins Aerospace quadruples Malaysia maintenance facility with $63M investment

Collins Aerospace, a unit of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has expanded its maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at Subang Aerotech Park in Malaysia with a $63 million investment. The expansion quadruples the company's MRO footprint in Selangor from 46,000 to 164,000 square feet.

The transition to the new facility is planned for completion by the end of this year. The expanded facility will serve as Collins Aerospace's regional hub for advanced component MRO services, supporting air cycle machines, heat exchangers, valves and new generation starters for various aircraft.

"The Asia-Pacific region is a key growth market for the industry, and this investment ensures that we grow alongside our customers," said Irene Makris, president of Power & Controls at Collins Aerospace. The company plans to double employment opportunities in the region to meet growing demand.

The Subang facility will incorporate advanced technologies including digital tier boards, eAndon systems, autonomous mobile robots and real-time location systems. The facility features a smart building management system designed to monitor and optimize resource consumption.

Malaysia Minister of Transport YB Loke Siew Fook welcomed the expansion, describing it as reflecting "high-value, skills-intensive growth" for the country's aerospace sector.

Collins Aerospace currently employs 150 people in Malaysia and 10,000 people across 24 locations in eight Asia-Pacific countries. The company has operated in the region for over 50 years, providing MRO, manufacturing, engineering and customer support services.

Since 2021, Collins has completed multiple MRO expansions in the Asia-Pacific region, introducing capabilities for electrical power systems, environmental and airframe control systems, and engine control systems.
