Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) announced results from post-hoc analyses of clinical trials showing that women taking the highest dose of Foundayo (orforglipron) experienced weight loss across all stages of menopause. The analyses examined data from more than 1,500 female participants in the ATTAIN-1 and ATTAIN-2 studies.
In ATTAIN-1, women in perimenopause taking the highest dose lost up to 30.4 pounds (14.4%) while those in post-menopause lost up to 28.2 pounds (14.1%) at 72 weeks. Pre-menopausal women lost up to 28.0 pounds (12.8%).
In ATTAIN-2, which included women with type 2 diabetes, weight loss ranged from 18.5 pounds (8.9%) in perimenopause to 27.8 pounds (13.6%) in post-menopause. Pre-menopausal women in this study lost up to 23.4 pounds (11.3%).
At the highest dose, up to 51.5% of women in ATTAIN-1 and up to 44.2% in ATTAIN-2 achieved weight loss of 15% or greater. Women also experienced waist circumference reductions of up to 4.9 inches in ATTAIN-1 and up to 4.3 inches in ATTAIN-2.
The findings were presented at the American Diabetes Association 86th Scientific Sessions. Foundayo is an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist that can be taken without food or water restrictions.
ATTAIN-1 was a 72-week trial that randomized 3,127 participants with obesity or overweight across multiple countries. ATTAIN-2 was a similar trial with over 1,600 participants who also had type 2 diabetes.
