Solidion Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: STI) announced a patented battery technology designed for space applications, including satellites, Low Earth Orbit-based artificial intelligence data centers, and lunar missions, according to a company statement.
The Dallas-based battery technology provider said its Generation Extreme-Climate Battery platform uses graphene to regulate temperature within battery cells, operating in temperatures from −80°C to +60°C. The company stated the technology prevents thermal runaway by dissipating heat and can draw warmth from external sources like solar panels during extreme cold conditions.
The company's battery platform includes silicon-rich all-solid-state lithium-ion cells, anode-less lithium metal, and lithium-sulfur batteries targeting 380+ Wh/kg energy density. Solidion said these batteries use non-flammable solid electrolytes.
Solidion reported testing performance of more than 500 charge cycles at −40°C for lunar applications. The company said it is engaging with aerospace partners to integrate its technology into vehicles and infrastructure.
"Powering missions in the vacuum of space requires technology that can perform amid intense solar radiation, extreme temperature fluctuations, and the severe vibrations of a launch payload," said Jaymes Winters, Chief Executive Officer of Solidion Technology.
The company holds a portfolio of over 385 patents covering battery innovations including silicon anodes, biomass-based graphite, and lithium-sulfur technologies. Solidion operates pilot production facilities in Dayton, Ohio, and serves markets including electric vehicles, data center power systems, and aerospace applications.
