Axsome Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: AXSM) announced its partnership with the Headache Alliance to support educational initiatives during Migraine and Headache Awareness Month in June.
The biopharmaceutical company is backing the first annual Headache in the City educational campaign scheduled for June 15 in New York City. Axsome's headquarters at One World Trade Center will be illuminated in purple on June 4 through the building's Spireworks program to promote migraine awareness.
"People living with migraine and headache disorders deserve to be seen, believed, and supported with information and care that reflect the seriousness of these diseases," said Julienne Verdi, Executive Director of The Headache Alliance and the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy.
According to the press release, migraine affects approximately 40 million people in the United States and ranks as the second leading cause of disability worldwide. The condition involves recurrent attacks of severe head pain accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light or sound.
As part of the awareness initiative, Axsome is promoting resources from migraine advocacy organizations including the American Migraine Foundation's doctor finder tool, educational videos from the Association of Migraine Disorders, financial assistance guides from CHAMP, and podcasts from the National Headache Foundation.
Axsome describes itself as a biopharmaceutical company focused on central nervous system disorders. The company reports having FDA-approved treatments for major depressive disorder, dementia-related agitation, excessive daytime sleepiness, and migraine, along with additional product candidates in development.
