Lunai Bioworks partners with BrainStorm for neurology drug discovery
Lunai Bioworks (NASDAQ: LNAI) and BrainStorm Therapeutics announced a collaboration to discover therapeutic targets for neurological diseases, according to a company statement. The partnership combines artificial intelligence-driven target discovery with human brain organoid modeling and zebrafish validation systems.
The collaboration received funding from the LouLou Foundation and will initially focus on rare genetic epilepsies and Parkinson's disease. BioSymetrics, Lunai's wholly owned subsidiary, will contribute AI-driven target discovery capabilities, while BrainStorm provides human-derived organoid systems.
The companies plan to integrate BrainStorm's Parkinson's disease midbrain organoid model with BioSymetrics' analysis of the Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative dataset. This work aims to identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the neurodegenerative condition.
A separate program under the collaboration involves researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Calum MacRae will participate in developing therapeutic approaches for a rare genetic epilepsy, with funding from the LouLou Foundation.
The companies signed a Letter of Intent to expand the collaboration across additional neurological conditions. The framework includes target identification, validation across biological systems, and engagement with pharmaceutical partners for development opportunities.
"Neurological diseases remain one of the largest areas of unmet medical need, yet CNS drug development continues to suffer from high rates of clinical trial failure," said Dr. Robert Fremeau, founder and CEO of BrainStorm Therapeutics.
David Weinstein, Lunai's CEO, stated the collaboration focuses on "efficiently advancing targets toward pharmaceutical partnering and downstream clinical development."
The partnership aims to create development-ready neurology programs for licensing agreements, co-development partnerships, and strategic collaborations with pharmaceutical companies.
