May 27, 2026 5:11 PM EDT

Investing.com -- Amazon announced on Wednesday that Dr. Roy Schoenberg will take over its healthcare business starting July 1. Schoenberg co-founded American Well Corp., a telehealth medicine company.

Schoenberg recently stepped down as executive chairman of Amwell and served as co-CEO of the Boston-based company until 2024 before his brother, Ido, became sole CEO. He is also CEO of privately-held elder care startup Aileen.ai, which he co-founded.

Neil Lindsay will step down from his position leading the healthcare unit and leave Amazon before the end of the year. Lindsay ran the healthcare business for nearly five years and spent 16 years at Amazon. He has led healthcare since November 2021 and previously served as senior vice president of the Prime membership program and held marketing roles, including for Kindle e-readers. Lindsay had no prior background in healthcare.

Amazon's healthcare business includes the One Medical chain of clinics and mail-order prescriptions. The company has described it as one of its fastest-growing businesses but does not report separate financial results for the unit.
