IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) and Georgia Theatre Company announced an agreement for five new IMAX with Laser locations across Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The expansion includes a location in Myrtle Beach and represents the companies' second partnership agreement in two years.
Two theaters will open in 2027, with additional locations scheduled for 2028 and 2029. The partnership began with Georgia Theatre Company's first IMAX location in Athens, Georgia, which opened in 2025.
Georgia Theatre Company operates 269 screens at 24 locations across five southeastern states. The company describes itself as the only 100% employee-owned theater circuit in the United States.
IMAX reported record domestic box office performance in 2025, with revenue up 14% over the previous record set in 2023. The company continued this momentum with 75% year-over-year growth in the first quarter of 2026.
The new locations will feature IMAX with Laser technology, which delivers 4K images and enhanced audio through proprietary projection systems. IMAX operates 1,865 systems across 91 countries and territories as of March 31, 2026.
The announcement comes ahead of upcoming releases including Universal/Syncopy's "The Odyssey" and Warner Bros./Legendary's "Dune: Part Three" later this year, according to the press release.
