IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) reported $24.4 million in global box office revenue during the four-day Memorial Day weekend for Disney/Lucasfilm's "The Mandalorian and Grogu," representing 14.8% of the film's worldwide debut.
The film generated $14.5 million in North America over the holiday weekend, capturing 14.5% of the domestic box office on approximately 1% of screens. International markets contributed $9.6 million to IMAX's total revenue for the release.
"The Mandalorian and Grogu" marks the first "Star Wars" film designated as "Filmed For IMAX," shot with IMAX-certified digital cameras. Nearly half of the movie features IMAX's expanded aspect ratio technology.
The company stated this represents the second highest IMAX domestic market share for any opening exceeding $100 million and showed 30% higher market share compared to previous "Star Wars" franchise entries. IMAX described the performance as a top-three all-time finish for the Memorial Day holiday period.
Director Jon Favreau collaborated with IMAX throughout production, including camera testing and use of IMAX's Apple Vision Pro application during filming. Lucasfilm hosted an IMAX-exclusive preview event on May 4th showing the first 25 minutes of the film at over 100 locations worldwide.
"Jon Favreau, Lucasfilm, and Disney leaned into IMAX in entirely new ways in the production and through the launch of 'The Mandalorian and Grogu,' and our global platform delivered an outsized performance at the box office as a result," said Rich Gelfond, IMAX CEO.
The film follows other successful IMAX releases in the second quarter including "Project Hail Mary," "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," and "Michael." IMAX operates 1,865 systems across 91 countries and territories as of March 31, 2026, according to the company statement.
