Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) announced results from a post-hoc analysis of Phase 3 trials showing its oral GLP-1 drug Foundayo produced weight reductions in adults aged 65 and older with obesity or overweight conditions.
The analysis examined data from the ATTAIN-1 and ATTAIN-2 trials, presented at ECO 2026 in Istanbul, Turkey. Foundayo, also known as orforglipron, is described as the only approved GLP-1 pill that can be taken without food or water restrictions.
In the ATTAIN-1 trial involving participants without type 2 diabetes, adults 65 and older experienced mean body weight reductions of 7.9%, 11.3%, and 13.0% at doses of 5.5 mg, 9 mg, and 17.2 mg respectively, compared to 1.6% with placebo at 72 weeks. Adults under 65 showed similar results with reductions of 7.7%, 9.2%, and 12.4% versus 0.8% with placebo.
The ATTAIN-2 trial, which included participants with type 2 diabetes, showed weight reductions of 7.5%, 8.3%, and 12.2% in adults 65 and older across the same dosing levels, compared to 2.3% with placebo. Younger adults experienced reductions of 5.0%, 7.6%, and 9.9% versus 2.2% with placebo.
The safety profile remained consistent across age groups, with gastrointestinal side effects including nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and vomiting being most common. Serious adverse events occurred in 9.9% to 13.0% of participants 65 and older across dosing groups, compared to 11.4% in the placebo group for the same age range.
