Manchester United announced that Michael Carrick has signed a new contract to continue as head coach of the men's first team through 2028.
Carrick returned to United as head coach in January and received the Premier League Manager of the Month award after victories against Manchester City and Arsenal in his opening two matches. Under his leadership, the team secured qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League with 11 wins from 16 games, recording the highest points total in the Premier League since his appointment.
The former midfielder played 464 games for Manchester United during his playing career, winning five Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
"From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United," Carrick said. "Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride."
Jason Wilcox, Manchester United Director of Football, said Carrick "has thoroughly earned the opportunity to continue leading our men's team" and praised his role in leading the club back to Champions League qualification.
The announcement comes as Manchester United prepares for the upcoming season with Champions League participation secured under Carrick's tenure.
