Teledyne FLIR launches FirstLook 125 throwable reconnaissance robot

Teledyne FLIR Defense, part of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced the launch of its FirstLook 125 throwable personal reconnaissance robot at SOF Week.

The unmanned ground vehicle weighs 5.7 pounds and can withstand drops from 16 feet while providing real-time visual, thermal, and audio surveillance capabilities. The robot features tracked mobility designed for stairwells, rubble, and uneven terrain.

The FirstLook 125 shares a common controller and operational architecture with Teledyne FLIR Defense's Black Hornet 4 nano-drone, allowing a single operator to manage both ground and air reconnaissance systems without changing equipment or workflows.

"As the need for interoperability with unmanned operations grows, FirstLook 125 can support missions demanding both ground and airborne intelligence, thanks to its common controller," said Tung Ng, Vice President of Unmanned Systems North America at Teledyne FLIR Defense.

The robot includes articulated flippers for navigating debris and obstacles, an enhanced electro-optical and infrared camera system, integrated illumination, and two-way audio communication. The device can self-right after throws or falls and operates in GPS-denied environments.

Teledyne FLIR Defense has been developing military and security technology for more than 45 years. The company manufactures thermal imaging systems, unmanned platforms, and detection devices for chemical, biological, radiation and explosive threats.
