Leonardo DRS launches thermal drone camera for unmanned systems

Leonardo DRS Inc. (NASDAQ: DRS) announced the launch of its Tenum 640 Orbit uncooled thermal camera module designed for unmanned air, ground, and maritime platforms. The company debuted the product at SOF Week in Tampa, Florida.

The thermal camera module features 640 x 512 resolution with 10 micrometer pixel pitch operating in the 8-14 micrometer spectral band. Built around an uncooled VOx microbolometer, the device supports 60 frames per second and delivers thermal sensitivity of less than 20 millikelvin.

"Unmanned systems are fielding at scale. Integrators and operators need thermal cameras that are both mission-capable and integration-friendly," said Greg Christison, vice president of Sensors & Aviation at Leonardo DRS.

The module is configured for Group 1-3 unmanned aerial vehicles and designed for high-volume original equipment manufacturer integration. The device provides thermal imagery for detection, tracking, navigation, and collision avoidance in day and night conditions.

Technical specifications include Mobile Industry Processor Interface camera serial interface and camera command set compatibility, with optional USB connectivity and configurable video outputs. The company positioned the product as optimized for size, weight, power, and cost considerations.
