Teledyne FLIR Defense, part of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced the U.S. Army has selected its Rogue 1 loitering munition system for the Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance (LASSO) program.
The company will deliver up to 130 Rogue 1 components and systems to the Army for testing and evaluation next summer under a two-year contract. The LASSO program seeks a man-portable, ground-launched lethal payload munition and uncrewed aerial system with anti-armor capability for Infantry Brigade Combat Teams.
Teledyne FLIR will provide a variant of its Rogue 1 lethal unmanned aerial system for the program. The system launched in spring 2024 and has already been delivered to U.S. Special Operations Command and the U.S. Marine Corps for their loitering munition programs.
"The precision and autonomy of the Rogue 1 platform make it ideally suited to achieve the Army's goals for LASSO," said Dr. JihFen Lei, President of Teledyne FLIR Defense.
The Rogue 1 is described as an optionally recoverable vertical takeoff and landing system designed for precision strikes against armored targets, vehicles, and dismounted threats. The system features a flight time exceeding 30 minutes, speeds over 70 mph, and range beyond 12 miles. It includes electro-optical and thermal cameras for day and night operations.
The system is designed to be carried by a single soldier without requiring vehicle transport or a launcher. According to Army solicitation statements, LASSO is intended to deliver long-range precision strike capability with minimal collateral damage in complex environments.
