Granite wins $15M Alaska highway preservation contract

Granite Construction (NYSE: GVA) received a $15 million contract from the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities for pavement preservation work on Glenn Highway near Chickaloon, Alaska, according to a company statement.

The federally funded project covers highway resurfacing from milepost 83 to 92 on the Glenn Highway, which runs 179 miles from Anchorage to Glennallen. The work includes replacing culverts, guardrail, striping and signage along the project length.

Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2026 and conclude by July 2027. Granite's Palmer Facility will supply 27,000 tons of hot mix asphalt for the project, while the company's Lucas Quarry will provide 2,300 tons of riprap products.

The contract was included in Granite's first quarter 2026 capital allocation plan. Regional Vice President Ryan Moren stated the project provides backlog for the company's Palmer facility operations.

Glenn Highway serves as a National Scenic Byway providing access to outdoor recreational areas in Alaska. The Watsonville, California-based construction company has operated since 1922 and describes itself as one of the largest diversified construction and construction materials companies in the United States.
