Ocean Power Technologies Inc. (NYSE American: OPTT) announced the deployment of three PowerBuoy systems supporting U.S. Department of Homeland Security maritime surveillance operations. The systems are transmitting real-time data from offshore environments as part of a distributed network.
One PowerBuoy operates in water depths exceeding 1,000 meters, demonstrating deep-water capabilities. The systems integrate with Anduril Industries' Lattice autonomous command and control platform for real-time data ingestion into operational workflows.
"This is a paradigm shift from single deployments to coordinated offshore systems operating simultaneously," said Jason Weed, senior vice president of sales and commercial at Ocean Power Technologies. "We are demonstrating that autonomous platforms can deliver continuous data from multiple locations, including deep-water environments, and integrate directly into operational command systems."
Each PowerBuoy functions as an offshore node providing power, communications and sensor hosting in a single autonomous platform designed for extended operation in ocean conditions. The systems include AI decision-making software from the company's Merrows suite.
The deployment is part of Ocean Power Technologies' ongoing DHS program supporting maritime domain awareness operations off the California coast. The company develops autonomous offshore systems for national security applications.
Ocean Power Technologies provides maritime solutions for defense, oil and gas, research, and offshore wind markets. The company is headquartered in Monroe Township, New Jersey, with an additional office in Richmond, California.
