Nokia launches AI system for broadband networks

Nokia announced new artificial intelligence capabilities for its fixed network products designed to enhance home and broadband network operations. The Finland-based telecommunications equipment company said its agentic AI system draws from experience with more than 600 million broadband lines deployed globally.

The AI capabilities are embedded across Nokia's Altiplano, Corteca, and Broadband Easy platforms. According to the company, the system enables telecom providers to resolve problems proactively and diagnose network issues through automated root cause analysis.

Nokia stated the AI agents can achieve first-contact helpdesk resolution rates above 50%, network incident qualification within five minutes, and a 50% reduction in return visits to construction sites and connected homes.

The system includes an AI assistant with conversational interface for technicians and support teams, AI-powered guidance for field technicians during installations, and automated diagnostics to detect network degradations. Computer vision technology validates work quality and helps build digital representations of fiber-to-the-home networks.

"AI makes your end-users less likely to churn, your engineering and helpdesk teams more productive, and your field teams connect more homes more quickly," said Sandy Motley, President Fixed Networks at Nokia.

The company designed the system with an open architecture that allows telecom providers to integrate their own AI tools and data sources while maintaining data sovereignty and vendor independence.

Nokia cited industry projections indicating the telecom sector will invest $6.2 billion in agentic AI by 2030. Grant Lenahan, Partner and Principal Analyst at Appledore Research, noted that vendors combining domain expertise with real-world scale are positioned to deliver reliable AI outcomes.
