International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (NYSE: IFF) announced the opening of its Vanilla Innovation Center in Madagascar, according to a company press release. The facility is located in Toamasina, Madagascar's principal seaport, near vanilla growing areas and post-harvest processing activities.
The 650-square-meter center combines lab analysis, extraction, scent and flavor creation, and application development in one location. The facility features lab analysis capabilities for contaminant and disease-detection protocols, extraction facilities with scalable equipment, a flavor creation unit, and a research greenhouse called The Bloomery that showcases vanilla varieties.
"The opening of the center marks an important step in how we approach vanilla innovation," said Adam JaĆczuk, senior vice president of research, creation and design for IFF's Taste division. "By strengthening our presence at origin, we connect science, creativity and sustainability more closely, responding to climate changes, safeguarding quality and creating value across the supply chain."
The center aims to enable closer collaboration with farmer networks and provide faster response to climate-related changes in vanilla production. IFF states the facility will support improved traceability and ethical sourcing practices.
Marcus Pesch, vice president of research and development for IFF's Taste division, said the center will allow the company to work more collaboratively with customers and deliver market-ready solutions based on vanilla production realities.
The Madagascar facility is integrated into IFF's global vanilla network and complements existing capabilities across sourcing, extraction, flavor design and application development. The center also serves as a hub for training and knowledge sharing programs.
