Investing.com -- Replimune Group shares jumped 21% on Friday following a report that President Trump plans to fire Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump has approved a plan to dismiss Makary.
Makary, a former Johns Hopkins surgeon who became a frequent Make America Healthy Again surrogate on television news programs, is viewed by other top administration leaders as struggling to manage his agency, according to the report. He has clashed frequently with health department officials and at times the White House.
His tenure has been marked by disputes over vaping, abortion and drug policy. The FDA has also dealt with aftereffects of DOGE-led layoffs and rapid turnover in the agency's leadership ranks.
