iBio Inc. (NASDAQ: IBIO) appointed Elizabeth Stoner to its board of directors as an independent member and to the compensation committee. Stoner replaces Eef Schimmelpennink, who stepped down from the board.
Stoner brings more than 35 years of research and development experience to the biotechnology company. She currently serves as an entrepreneur partner at MPM BioImpact, a biotechnology investment firm, where she works with portfolio companies on clinical strategy and development.
Her previous roles include interim chief executive officer of Semma Therapeutics and founder, chief medical officer and chief development officer of Rhythm Pharmaceuticals. She also served as senior vice president of global clinical development operations at Merck Research Laboratories, where she led clinical development activities across more than 40 countries.
Stoner currently serves on the boards of multiple biotechnology companies, including Antiva Biosciences and LIB Therapeutics. Her experience spans endocrine, metabolic and cardiovascular programs, along with global regulatory and clinical execution.
The appointment comes as iBio prepares for its first human clinical trial. The company develops therapies for cardiometabolic, obesity and cardiopulmonary diseases using artificial intelligence and computational biology.
"I look forward to working with my fellow directors and an incredible management team to progress IBIO-610, IBIO-600, and other assets into the clinic," Stoner said in a statement.
iBio's pipeline includes treatments for obesity and pulmonary hypertension associated with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
