MicroVision, Inc. (NASDAQ: MVIS) signed a memorandum of understanding with Avular Innovations B.V. to integrate lidar technology with drone platforms for autonomous systems applications. The collaboration combines MicroVision's solid-state lidar sensors with Avular's modular drone platforms to develop solutions for civil infrastructure and commercial markets.
The partnership targets capabilities including autonomous mission execution in GPS-denied environments, 3D modeling, terrain mapping, collision avoidance, and safe launch and landing operations. Applications focus on civil infrastructure, traffic management, first responder support, and facility security across the United States and Europe.
"This collaboration reflects the growing demand for intelligent perception systems that can operate in complex, real-world environments," said Glen DeVos, CEO of MicroVision. "By combining our perception technology with Avular's advanced drone platforms, we are enabling new levels of situational awareness, autonomy, and operational performance for stakeholders."
The companies plan to launch a joint demonstration program integrating MicroVision's lidar and perception software with Avular drone platforms. The demonstrations aim to validate performance in operational settings and generate opportunities for program funding and deployment.
Under the agreement, Avular will handle drone system design, flight stack development, and integration, while MicroVision provides lidar hardware, perception software, and autonomous mapping capabilities. A joint steering committee will guide strategy and execution.
MicroVision will lead business development efforts in the United States, while Avular focuses on European markets. The collaboration includes exploration of joint commercial opportunities and potential introduction of combined solutions into the U.S. market.
"MicroVision brings a level of precision, performance, and maturity in perception technology that is critical for real-world deployment," said Albert Maas, CEO of Avular.
