Markel Insurance names Raphael Da Costa to lead US cyber portfolio

Markel Insurance, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE: MKL), appointed Raphael Da Costa to lead its U.S. cyber and tech errors and omissions portfolio, according to a company statement.
Da Costa will oversee the company's U.S. cyber and tech E&O underwriting strategy, portfolio management and product development. He will collaborate with underwriting, claims and actuarial teams to support growth and develop solutions for cyber risk environments.
"Raphael brings deep technical knowledge and strong market experience that directly benefits our brokers and customers as cyber risks continue to evolve," said Paul Melone, Executive Underwriting Officer for Professional Liability.
Da Costa brings over 15 years of experience in cybersecurity and insurance sectors. He joined Markel in 2023 and previously led strategic development and execution of U.S. cyber and technology E&O insurance products for middle market risks.
The executive will be based in Markel's New York office. Da Costa stated that cyber and technology risks change in real time and customers need underwriting partners who understand technical details and business impact.
Markel Insurance operates as a specialty insurer within Markel Group Inc., providing insurance solutions for complex specialty insurance needs across global markets.
