BAE Systems opens 150,000-square-foot facility in Endicott for aircraft batteries

BAE Systems (LON: BA) has opened a 150,000-square-foot addition to its Endicott, New York campus dedicated to developing and manufacturing high-voltage energy storage systems for hybrid and electric aircraft and ground vehicles.

The expansion, which was announced last year, represents a $65 million investment and is expected to create 130 jobs, according to Senator Chuck Schumer. The facility includes an advanced engineering laboratory, automated manufacturing capabilities, and workspace for BAE Systems' aftermarket services team.

"This expansion strengthens our ability to meet growing global demand for aircraft and ground vehicle electrification," said Jack Stevens, vice president and general manager of Controls and Avionics Solutions at BAE Systems.

The new building supports BAE Systems' development of energy storage systems for aviation and ground vehicle applications. The facility will house a battery production line, research laboratory, and office space, according to the company's press release.

BAE Systems' Endicott operations focus on solutions for commercial and military applications, including flight controls, engine controls, mission systems, and power and propulsion solutions. The expansion increases the company's manufacturing capacity and field support operations for electrification technologies.

The facility also provides dedicated workspace for BAE Systems' Horizon Solutions Aftermarket Services and Support team, which offers commercial aircraft solutions.
