Aptiv PLC (NYSE: APTV) and Comau announced a collaboration to co-develop automation solutions for robotics, autonomous systems, and industrial logistics. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding to evaluate joint development opportunities in these areas.
The collaboration will combine Aptiv's perception, compute, and software technologies with Comau's robotics and industrial deployment expertise. Aptiv's portfolio includes Wind River edge platforms and Aptiv PULSE sensor and interconnect solutions.
The initial cooperation phase will explore four use cases: advanced robotics for autonomous mobile robots and collaborative robots; AI-enabled warehouse and logistics automation using Comau's Automha logistics software; high-performance interconnect systems for industrial environments; and radar and vision-based industrial safety systems.
"Through our work with Comau, we aim to combine Aptiv's advanced perception, compute, and software solutions with Comau's deep expertise in robotics and large-scale industrial deployment," said Jay Bellissimo, senior vice president and president of Intelligent Systems, Software and Services at Aptiv.
Giovanni Volpes, chief extended Europe officer at Comau, stated the partnership "creates a powerful combination of complementary strengths" to deliver robotic and digital solutions for modernizing operations and accelerating AI adoption.
The collaboration builds on existing business relationships between the companies. Comau currently uses Wind River's VxWorks in its industrial controllers, while Aptiv uses Comau robots in its manufacturing facilities.
Aptiv is an industrial technology company focused on automated, electrified, and digitalized solutions. Comau specializes in automation solutions and owns Automha, which provides intralogistics and warehousing automation.
