Workhorse Group Inc. (NASDAQ: WKHS) announced a purchase order for 100 W56 electric step vans from Gateway Fleets, a California-based provider of electric vehicle and charging solutions for commercial delivery operators.
The order was facilitated through Kingsburg Truck Center, a California truck dealer. Gateway Fleets plans to deploy the vehicles across its network of electrified sites and is preparing to launch additional locations in the coming months.
The W56 step vans feature a 210 kWh battery with a nominal range of 150 miles per charge, 1,000 cubic feet of cargo space, and a payload capacity of 10,000 pounds. Vehicles are expected to begin deployment in July 2026.
Gateway Fleets offers the vehicles through a lease structure designed to help fleet operators access electric vehicles while managing cash flow and avoiding large upfront capital expenditures. The company operates depots in Southern California and is expanding its network across the region.
"Gateway Fleets understands the challenges fleets are facing right now, and they've built a business model designed to solve it," said Scott Griffith, Chief Executive Officer of Workhorse.
Jamie Miller, Chief Revenue Officer of Gateway Fleets, stated the company has seen fuel cost savings of up to 65 percent on active delivery routes based on a year-long case study at its Riverside, California site.
Workhorse produces the W56 models at its manufacturing facility in Union City, Indiana, which can produce more than 5,000 vehicles per year on a single operating shift. The company has delivered more than 1,100 vehicles that have accumulated more than 20 million miles across customer fleets.
