Xanadu Quantum Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: XNDU) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory have collaborated to deploy Xanadu's PennyLane quantum software library on the Frontier supercomputer, according to a company press release.
The collaboration allows users of the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility to write and execute quantum programs on Frontier using PennyLane's Lightning simulator. Frontier is powered by AMD's CPUs and GPUs and represents one of the most advanced computing systems available.
Xanadu integrated Message Passing Interface (MPI) with Lightning to enable communication across multiple computational nodes. This integration allows researchers to leverage parallel computing capabilities for quantum simulation work and reduce total runtime for complex calculations.
The companies conducted a workshop to train researchers on using PennyLane for quantum programming and leveraging the supercomputing capabilities of Frontier. The workshop aimed to provide participants with practical knowledge for quantum computing applications.
"We're thrilled that PennyLane is now ready for researchers using Frontier to push the limits of quantum computing simulation," said Dr. Christian Weedbrook, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Xanadu.
Michael Sandoval, a high-performance engineer at Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility, said the collaboration enables the user community to simulate quantum programs at scale, supporting algorithm benchmarking and investigation of hardware constraints.
PennyLane is an open-source software framework for quantum machine learning, quantum chemistry, and quantum computing. Oak Ridge National Laboratory is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy's Office of Science.
