AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. (NYSE: AMC) reported that more than 4.0 million moviegoers attended films at its U.S. and international locations from April 22-26, driven by the opening of the biographical film MICHAEL.
The film, which focuses on Michael Jackson, generated $97 million in domestic box office revenue and $217 million globally during its opening period, according to media reports cited by AMC. The figures include attendance from Wednesday and Thursday preview screenings through Sunday.
AMC operates approximately 855 theaters with 9,640 screens globally and describes itself as the largest theatrical exhibitor in the United States and worldwide. The company also operates ODEON Cinemas internationally.
The film was produced by Graham King, directed by Antoine Fuqua, and distributed domestically by Lionsgate and internationally by Universal, according to the company's statement.
"A clear through-line in the successful box office openings we've seen so far in 2026 is that filmmakers are delivering what audiences want: movies that entertain, amuse, and delight," said AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron in the company's announcement.
AMC noted that MICHAEL follows other major openings in 2026, including PROJECT HAIL MARY and THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE, though specific performance figures for these films were not provided.
The company's statement indicated expectations for continued attendance based on audience reactions to the film.
