onsemi (NASDAQ: ON) announced an expanded strategic collaboration with NIO Inc. (NYSE: NIO) to support the automaker's transition to next-generation 900V electric vehicle platforms, according to a company press release.
The partnership will utilize onsemi's EliteSiC enhanced M3e technology to support NIO's shift from 400V to 900V architectures. The technology aims to deliver improved switching performance through enhanced body diode characteristics, reducing energy losses while maintaining short-circuit robustness.
Multiple NIO models featuring onsemi technology will be showcased at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, including NIO's flagship SUV, the ES9. The collaboration builds on a multi-year partnership that initially supported NIO's 400V platforms.
"Our expanded collaboration with NIO demonstrates how deep engineering alignment and aligned technology roadmaps can accelerate the transition to high-voltage architectures," said Hassane El-Khoury, President and CEO of onsemi.
Alan Zeng, CEO of XPT, NIO's powertrain unit, stated that "the performance and reliability of onsemi's EliteSiC technology, combined with strong technical collaboration, are helping us deliver more efficient, high-performance vehicles to our customers worldwide."
The expanded partnership reflects the automotive industry's shift toward closer alignment between automakers and semiconductor companies as vehicles become more power-intensive. The collaboration focuses on system-level integration to support scalable, higher-performance electric vehicle platforms.
onsemi's EliteSiC technology is designed to enable higher system output, improved thermal performance, and increased drivetrain efficiency in the transition to high-voltage EV architectures.
