Amcor (NYSE: AMCR) opened an advanced healthcare packaging coating facility in Subang Jaya, Selangor, representing a $35 million investment in Southeast Asia manufacturing capabilities.
The facility introduces air-knife coating technology to the region for producing coated medical paper used in sterile medical device packaging. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority facilitated the investment.
"Amcor's investment reinforces Malaysia's position as a strategic center for advanced manufacturing in the region," said Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, Chief Executive Officer of MIDA. "Beyond expanding capacity, this facility strengthens local supply chain resilience, accelerates technology adoption and supports the development of skilled Malaysian talent."
The facility expands Amcor's existing healthcare packaging operations into a fully integrated manufacturing site designed to support healthcare customers across the region. The company stated the localization creates dual sourcing options and strengthens supply chain reliability.
Chris Kenneally, President of Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific, said the opening "underscores our long-term commitment to supporting our partners in the healthcare sector across Asia Pacific."
The project involved collaboration across Amcor's global network, with technical specialists from the United States working with the Malaysian team on installation, commissioning and operational training.
The facility features advanced inspection systems, automated manufacturing processes, closed-loop process controls and in-line quality monitoring designed for healthcare packaging applications.
Malaysia approved RM152 million in medical device investments in 2025, according to the press release statement. Amcor generates $23 billion in annualized sales from operations spanning over 400 locations in more than 40 countries.
