Meta partners with AWS to deploy tens of millions of Graviton cores
Meta Platforms has entered an agreement with Amazon Web Services to deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton cores in its computing infrastructure, making Meta one of the largest Graviton customers globally.
The partnership aims to support Meta's development of agentic AI systems, which are autonomous programs that reason, plan, and execute complex tasks. Meta stated that these AI applications require different computational resources compared to traditional workloads, with increased demand for CPU processing power.
"As we scale the infrastructure behind Meta's AI ambitions, diversifying our compute sources is a strategic imperative," said Santosh Janardhan, Head of Infrastructure at Meta. "AWS has been a trusted cloud partner for years, and expanding to Graviton allows us to run the CPU-intensive workloads behind agentic AI with the performance and efficiency we need at our scale."
AWS Graviton5 cores are designed to provide faster data processing and greater bandwidth for AI systems that continuously process and execute tasks at scale. The initial deployment will begin with tens of millions of cores, with potential for expansion as Meta's AI capabilities develop.
The agreement builds on Meta's existing relationship with AWS and supports the company's infrastructure diversification strategy. Meta operates its own data centers and custom hardware while also partnering with cloud providers for specific capabilities.
"This isn't just about chips; it's about giving customers the infrastructure foundation, as well as data and inference services, to build AI that understands, anticipates, and scales efficiently to billions of people worldwide," said Nafea Bshara, Vice President and Distinguished Engineer at Amazon.
The information comes from a company statement released by Meta.
