Vaxart appoints James Breitmeyer to board of directors

Vaxart Inc. (OTCQX: VXRT) announced the appointment of James Breitmeyer, M.D., Ph.D., to its board of directors. The clinical-stage biotechnology company develops oral vaccines based on its proprietary delivery platform.
Breitmeyer brings more than 35 years of biopharmaceutical experience, having led clinical development programs that resulted in eight FDA product approvals and regulatory successes across the United States, Europe, and Japan, according to a company statement.
"We are pleased to welcome Jim to the Vaxart Board as we continue to advance our clinical programs and demonstrate the long-term potential of our oral vaccine platform," said Mark Watson, lead independent director of Vaxart. "Jim's deep expertise in drug development and his extensive experience navigating complex regulatory paths will be a significant asset."
In February 2026, Breitmeyer joined Altay Therapeutics as CEO and board director. He previously served as president and CEO of Oncternal Therapeutics Inc., where he oversaw clinical development of oncology assets. His experience includes vaccine development from his role as president of Bavarian Nordic Inc., where he oversaw development of cancer, infectious disease, and bioterrorism vaccines.
Breitmeyer also held senior clinical leadership roles at Eli Lilly and Company and Cadence Pharmaceuticals, managing multiple candidates through clinical and regulatory processes toward commercial launch. His board experience includes previous director roles at Zogenix Inc. and Otonomy Inc.

Breitmeyer earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from Washington University School of Medicine and completed postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard Medical School and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
