Investing.com -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Iran will not execute eight women protesters, following his direct appeal to Iranian leaders.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said four of the women will be released immediately, while the remaining four will serve one-month prison sentences instead of facing execution.
"I very much appreciate that Iran, and its leaders, respected my request, as President of the United States, and terminated the planned execution," Trump wrote.
Earlier, Trump had posted a message directed at Iranian leaders, requesting the release of the women ahead of planned negotiations between Iran and U.S. representatives.
"I would greatly appreciate the release of these women. I am sure that they will respect the fact that you did so. Please do them no harm! Would be a great start to our negotiations!!!" Trump wrote in the earlier post.
