MicroVision Inc. (NASDAQ: MVIS) announced April 22 it has begun revenue-generating shipments of lidar sensors to customers in hauling, mining and autonomous trucking applications.
The Redmond, Washington-based company said the deployments span development programs, field validation and operational systems as part of its Lidar 2.0 strategy to expand beyond automotive into industrial markets.
"MicroVision sensors and software are fundamental to the system architectures of industrial autonomy leaders, enabling new experiences that add value for their end users," said Glen DeVos, CEO of MicroVision. "We're shipping sensors to customers across hauling, mining, and trucking applications who are building and operating autonomous systems today."
The company is working with a construction and mining equipment manufacturer to develop autonomous hauling vehicles currently in field validation before scaled deployment. The lidar sensors work alongside radar, cameras and GPS to detect obstacles and hazards.
In mining operations, MicroVision is collaborating with a global mining equipment provider to integrate lidar into autonomous haulage systems operating in active production environments. The company said this represents production deployment rather than a pilot program.
For autonomous trucking, MicroVision is supplying sensors to a trucking provider for Class 8 trucks operating at highway speeds. Field validation has tested the company's Iris sensor under extreme conditions, with detection capability beyond 250 meters.
MicroVision develops lidar-based perception solutions for automotive, industrial, and security markets. The company operates engineering centers in the United States and Germany.
