Draganfly Inc. (NASDAQ: DPRO) Chief Executive Officer Cameron Chell appeared before the Standing Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Veterans Affairs to discuss Canada's defense capabilities and procurement processes, according to a company statement.
During his testimony, Chell addressed the need for Canada to modernize its procurement frameworks to align with current conflict realities. "Weapons can win a battle—but industrial capacity wins wars and ensures sovereignty," Chell stated. "Canada has world-class innovation and talent. What is required now is decisive alignment between policy, procurement, and industry to ensure that Canadian capabilities are not only developed here—but deployable, scaled, and able to be relied upon when it matters most."
Chell outlined three strategic priorities for Canada's Defense Industrial Strategy: recognizing Canadian technology companies as strategic national assets, creating pathways to scale pilot programs into purchase orders, and building integrated ecosystems connecting industry, operators, and supply chains.
The CEO drew comparisons between Canadian and U.S. defense procurement processes, highlighting differences in how allied nations deploy emerging technologies including autonomous systems and drone platforms. Chell noted that while Canada maintains strong foundational capabilities, procurement modernization remains necessary to meet defense commitments.
Draganfly develops drone solutions and systems for public safety, defense, and critical infrastructure operations. The company has operated for more than 25 years and trades on NASDAQ and the Canadian Securities Exchange under the ticker DPRO.
