Labcorp (NYSE: LH) announced the launch of an AI-powered real-world data platform designed to accelerate Alzheimer's disease research, developed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services and Datavant.
The platform combines Labcorp's diagnostic and genomic datasets with medical claims data and uses artificial intelligence to analyze deidentified healthcare information. The system aims to reduce data preparation time from months to minutes for researchers and biopharmaceutical companies studying Alzheimer's disease.
According to the company, the platform provides real-time analysis of treatment patterns and patient outcomes across diverse populations. It also supports identification of patient cohorts for clinical trial recruitment based on specific criteria and offers statistical modeling tools to identify patients with unmet clinical needs.
"By combining AI, advanced analytics and the scale of Labcorp's diagnostic data, we're redefining what's possible—compressing months of manual data preparation into minutes," said Bola Oyegunwa, Labcorp's executive vice president and chief information and technology officer.
The platform utilizes AWS's AI services, including Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, for analyzing clinical trial and patient datasets. Dr. Rowland Illing, chief medical officer at AWS Healthcare and Life Sciences, stated the collaboration could potentially reduce drug development timelines by years.
Labcorp reported that 7.2 million Americans live with Alzheimer's disease, with annual care costs exceeding $380 billion in the United States. The company operates blood-based biomarker testing for Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
The platform will complete its initial validation phase in spring 2026 and is expected to expand throughout 2026 to include additional data sources and analytical capabilities for inflammatory diseases, cardiometabolic conditions, women's health and oncology research.
