Emergent BioSolutions Inc. (NYSE: EBS) announced a partnership with British Columbia's Provincial Health Services Authority to supply NARCAN Nasal Spray for the province's expanded Take Home Naloxone Program. The agreement follows an $18 million CAD investment by the British Columbia government to expand the program to include nasal naloxone.
The expansion builds on British Columbia's nasal naloxone pilot program launched in 2024, which distributed 60,000 nasal naloxone kits to community sites, pharmacies, post-secondary institutions, First Nations-mandated institutions, fire departments, municipalities and libraries.
NARCAN Nasal Spray is designed to reverse opioid overdoses within minutes. Emergent reports delivering more than 100 million doses of the product across Canada and the United States since 2016. The company operates a manufacturing facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and maintains offices in Mississauga, Ontario, with over 300 employees across its Canadian operations.
The nasal spray is available at no cost to residents in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the Yukon through provincial and territorial take-home naloxone programs. It is also accessible through Veterans Affairs Canada, the First Nations Health Authority and the Non-Insured Health Benefits program.
Emergent BioSolutions develops products for public health threats including smallpox, mpox, botulism, Ebola, anthrax and opioid overdose emergencies, according to the company's statement.
