Roadzen receives India patent for AI road hazard detection system

Roadzen Inc. (NASDAQ: RDZN) announced that its drivebuddyAI platform received a patent in India for an AI-powered system that detects and maps road hazards in real-time. The technology identifies potholes, rough patches and hazardous road conditions using vehicle-based sensors.

The patented system combines Global Navigation Satellite System data for location and speed tracking with accelerometer sensors that detect motion across three axes. When the system detects spikes in vertical acceleration indicating potential road anomalies, it verifies the findings through video processed by a deep learning model to create geo-tagged road condition data.

The technology creates dynamic road quality maps that update continuously as equipped vehicles collect new data, turning each vehicle into a data collection point for road conditions. This differs from traditional static road surveys by providing real-time updates on road quality.

Roadzen states the system enables navigation routing based on verified road condition data rather than solely distance and traffic patterns. The company reports drivebuddyAI now holds 15 patents and maintains certifications across AIS-184, EU GSR 2144, and Euro NCAP 2026 standards.
