Eaton to build $30 million Nebraska switchgear plant for data centers

Eaton announced plans to invest over $30 million in a new manufacturing facility in Bellevue, Nebraska, to produce medium-voltage switchgear equipment for data centers, utilities and industrial applications.

The 370,000-square-foot facility is expected to begin production in the first half of 2027 and create more than 200 engineering, manufacturing and production jobs. The company plans to start hiring for these positions later this year.

The new plant will manufacture air-insulated switchgear and gas-insulated switchgear to meet demand from nearly 3,000 planned U.S. data centers. The switchgear equipment protects, controls and isolates electrical equipment in power generation and distribution systems.

According to the company's press release, the U.S. switchgear market is projected to grow from $17.8 billion in 2024 to $31.8 billion by 2034. The facility will be located six miles from Eaton's current Omaha operation, with existing employees transitioning to the new location over time.

"Eaton is making bold investments to drive growth—expanding our U.S. manufacturing footprint, adding jobs and helping customers accelerate projects," said Mike Yelton, president of Eaton's Electrical Sector.

The new facility will produce engineered-to-order switchgear that can be integrated into Eaton's prefabricated power systems. The company reported revenues of $27.4 billion in 2025 and has invested more than $1.5 billion in global manufacturing capacity since 2023.

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen and Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike expressed support for the investment in statements included in the company's announcement.
