FMC receives EU approval for Isoflex herbicide active ingredient

FMC Corporation (NYSE: FMC) announced that its herbicide active ingredient Isoflex, with the chemical name bixlozone, received regulatory approval in the European Union. The approval covers application across more than 55 million planted hectares of cereals, corn, oilseed rape and potato in the EU.

The company has submitted product dossiers for these crops and anticipates launching products containing Isoflex beginning in 2027, pending regulatory decisions. The active ingredient is classified as a Group 13 herbicide by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee.

According to the company, European growers have lost access to more than 20 herbicide active ingredients since the last herbicide approval in 2019. Sebastià Pons, vice president and president of FMC EMEA, stated that "The approval of Isoflex active addresses a critical gap in agriculture in the European Union."

Isoflex provides control of grass weeds and broadleaf weeds and offers a new mode of action for managing resistant weed populations. The molecule has exhibited selectivity in pre-plant, pre-emergence and early post-emergence applications.

The European approval follows commercialization in nine other markets including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Great Britain, Pakistan, Uruguay and India. Products containing Isoflex have been used in cereals, cotton, oilseed rape, rice and pulses globally.

FMC continues research and development on the use of Isoflex in additional crops and segments, according to the press release statement.
