Canadian National Railway Co. (NYSE: CNI) moved 2.96 million metric tonnes of grain from Western Canada in March 2026, establishing a new monthly record and contributing to the company's highest first-quarter grain movement results.
The railway company achieved weekly volumes exceeding 600,000 tonnes for two consecutive weeks during March, with peak weekly movement surpassing 650,000 tonnes. The performance reflected network operations across West Coast and eastern shipping corridors.
Late-month weather events temporarily affected terminal capacity in Vancouver and the Prince Rupert corridor, according to the company's statement. CN restored network operations following these disruptions.
The March results occurred alongside the seasonal reopening of the Port of Thunder Bay and what the company described as record export demand for grain shipments.
CN operates a rail network spanning nearly 20,000 miles across North America, transporting more than 300 million tons of cargo annually. The Montreal-based company has provided rail services since 1919.
