Alpha Cognition receives patent for traumatic brain injury treatment

Alpha Cognition Inc. (NASDAQ: ACOG) announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued U.S. Patent No. 12,589,099 on March 31, 2026. The patent covers methods of treating confirmed and suspected traumatic brain injury using the company's drug candidate ALPHA-1062.
The patent, titled "ALPHA-1062 for treating Traumatic Brain Injury," provides protection through 2045. Alpha Cognition stated the patent strengthens its intellectual property portfolio alongside existing patents for ALPHA-1062 and ZUNVEYL.
"This patent marks an important milestone in expanding our platform beyond Alzheimer's disease," said Michael McFadden, Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Cognition. "Traumatic brain injury represents a significant unmet medical need, with an estimated total addressable market of $14 billion and no approved therapies."
Alpha Cognition develops treatments for neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease and cognitive impairment with mild traumatic brain injury. The company's ZUNVEYL is approved as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor for Alzheimer's disease treatment.
ALPHA-1062 is being developed in combination with memantine for moderate to severe Alzheimer's dementia and as an intranasal formulation for cognitive impairment with mild traumatic brain injury.
