RLI promotes Cory Figiel to chief claim officer, Charles Spiekerman to VP

RLI Corp. (NYSE: RLI) announced two promotions within its claims organization effective April 1, 2026, according to a company statement.
Cory Figiel was promoted from Vice President, Claim to Chief Claim Officer, where she will oversee strategy and operations for the company's claims organization across all product lines. Figiel replaces Bob Handzel, who retired March 31, 2026, after 20 years with RLI and 47 years in the insurance industry.
Figiel joined RLI in 2016 as Director, Claim Counsel and previously served as Vice President, Claim with responsibility for Professional Liability, Environmental Liability, Executive Products and Surety claims. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and a Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Charles Spiekerman was promoted from Assistant Vice President, Professional Liability Claims to Vice President, Claim. In his new role, he will lead RLI's Professional Liability, Environmental Liability, Executive Products and Surety claim teams.
Spiekerman joined RLI in 2015 as a Claim Examiner and has held positions including Claim Manager, Claim Director and Assistant Vice President, Professional Liability Claims. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law.
"These leadership transitions reflect RLI's commitment to strong, collaborative leadership and thoughtful succession planning," said RLI Corp. Chief Operating Officer Jen Klobnak.
RLI is a specialty insurer serving property, casualty and surety markets through its subsidiaries RLI Insurance Company, Mt. Hawley Insurance Company and Contractors Bonding and Insurance Company.
